How to Hang a Valance and Curtains

Curtains and window valances are a popular option for dressing windows because they come in a variety of colors and weights. From sheer to heavy blackout curtains, your window dressings determine how much light gets into a room. Use heavy curtains for private rooms and lighter dressings for shared family rooms. Before installing, be sure to use a curtain rod that can support the weight of your new window dressings. The heavier the material, the larger the curtain rod needs to be. Install Curtain Brackets

Mark the placement of the first bracket with a pencil and tape measure. Place curtain rods higher above the window for longer curtains. Use the pencil to mark the first curtain bracket and do the same for the second. Once marked, use a level to ensure both marks are aligned. Once even, drill the brackets into your wall with screws.
